Margaret McTavish Konantz Memorial Fund

X

Margaret Konantz was born in Winnipeg in 1899 and was the daughter of Edith McTavish Rogers, the first female member of the Manitoba Legislature. Following in her mother’s footsteps, Margaret became involved in politics after her husband’s death, and served as a Liberal Member of Parliament for Winnipeg South in the 1960s. She also represented Canada at the United Nations under Lester Pearson’s Liberal Government and sat on the Flag Committee that chose the Canadian flag that we have today.

This fund was established by her son, William Gordon Konantz, in 1983. Many members of the Konantz family have made gifts to the fund, thereby honouring Margaret and creating a family legacy that spans generations.

Gifts to the fund are pooled and invested, with a portion of the generated income distributed as grants to local registered charities in our community each year. As the original gift remains invested, your contribution will continue to benefit the people of Winnipeg in perpetuity.
