Vic Pruden Bursary Fund

The Vic Pruden Bursary was established in 2025 to recognize two graduating high school student-athletes who intend to play university basketball at Brandon University, the University of Manitoba or the University of Winnipeg.

The bursary is named in honour of Vic Pruden, who dedicated his career to coaching and growing the sport of basketball locally, provincially and nationally. As a builder of the sport, Vic was the founding organizer of the Fort Garry Invitational Tournament and the Golden Boy Invitational – now the Wesmen Classic - as well as being the driving force and organizer for the creation of both the men’s and women’s basketball programs at the University of Winnipeg. As a coach, Vic remains one of the most successful in Manitoba’s basketball history with numerous championships at the high school and university levels. From his own experience, Vic understands the financial hardships some student-athletes face while playing competitive sports. It is for this reason that these bursaries are intended to assist two student-athletes in need of financial support while entering university.

Everyone is welcome to make a gift to this fund. By coming together to grow the endowment, we honour the contributions Coach Pruden has made to the sport of basketball while providing financial support to deserving student-athletes.

Gifts to the Vic Pruden Bursary Fund will be pooled and invested with a portion of the generated income distributed to the annual recipients. As the original gift will remain invested, your contribution will continue to benefit student-athletes in perpetuity.
