The Assiniboia Residential School Legacy Fund was established to immediately help create a commemorative monument and gathering place at the site of the former Assiniboia Residential School at 621 Academy Road in Winnipeg.
Assiniboia Residential School was Manitoba’s first residential high school, operating until 1973. This project will honour and commemorate the institution's more than 750 Survivors and be a welcoming place for all to gather and learn.
Gifts to the fund will be pooled and immediately granted through the City of Winnipeg and be directed for use by the Assiniboia Residential School Legacy Group so that the commemorative monument and gathering place is open for Canada’s second National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, September 30, 2022.
