For over 30
years, the Honourable Sharon Carstairs has passionately promoted access to
palliative care for all Canadians and was recognized by the Order of Canada in
2016 for her career in public service and advocacy work for improving
palliative care across Canada. Her extraordinary work exemplifies how one
individual’s vision and dedication can drive dramatic and effective change.
The Sharon
Carstairs Caring Community Award was established in 2011 to recognize and
support exemplary leadership in providing or improving hospice and palliative
care in Manitoba. Palliative Manitoba is pleased to offer this award annually,
which includes a monetary prize funded by this endowment fund, to celebrate the
efforts of Manitoba communities in answering Sharon’s call and enhancing
palliative care for today, and future generations.
